Discrete Scan Statistics Generated by Exchangeable Binary Trials

چکیده
Let {Xi}i=1 be a sequence of random variables with two possible outcomes, denoted 0 and 1. Define a random variable Sn,m to be the maximum number of 1s within any m consecutive trials in {Xi}i=1. The random variable Sn,m is called a discrete scan statistic and has applications in many areas. In this paper we evaluate the distribution of discrete scan statistics when {Xi}i=1 consists of exchangeable binary trials. We provide simple closed-form expressions for both conditional and unconditional distributions of Sn,m for 2m ≥ n. These results are also new for independent, identically distributed Bernoulli trials, which are a special case of exchangeable trials.

On Occurrences of F -s Strings in Linearly and Circularly Ordered Binary Sequences
Consider a sequence of exchangeable or independent binary trials ordered on a line or on a circle. The statistics denoting the number of times an F -S string of length (at least) k1 + k2, that is, (at least) k1 failures followed by (at least) k2 successes in n such trials, are studied. The associated waiting time for the rth occurrence of an F -S string of length (at least) k1+ k2 in linearly o...
متن کاملBounds for the Distribution of Two Dimensional Binary Scan Statistics
In the present article we develop some efficient bounds for the distribution function of a two dimensional scan statistic defined on a (double) sequence of iid binary trials. The methodology employed here takes advantage of the connection between the scan statistic problem and a equivalent reliability structure and exploits appropriate techniques of reliability theory to establish tractable bou...

These days, with technological advancement, it is very easy for miscreants to produce illegal multimedia data copies. Various techniques of copyright protection of free data are being developed daily. Digital watermarking is one such technique, where digital embedding of the copyright information/watermark into the data to be protected. The two major ways of doing so are spatial domain and the ...
متن کاملLinear recursion properties of uncorrelated binary sequences
A proof is provided that a finite sequence which is balanced and uncorrelated cannot satisfy the linear recursion property expected of a randomly generated finite binary sequence. A corollary of this applies the result to PN-sequences (which additionally have optimal run statistics). The proof is obtained by establishing a tight upper bound on the linear complexity of uncorrelated sequences whi...
متن کاملGEE analysis of negatively correlated binary responses: a caution.
The method of generalized estimating equations has become almost standard for analysing longitudinal and other correlated response data. However, we have found that if binary responses have less than binomial variation over clusters, and are modelled using exchangeable correlations, prevailing software implementations may give unreliable results. Bounding the negative correlation away from its ...
